Lidar is a point cloud 3D scanning technology used by many industrial and engineering industries to visualize manufactured parts or quality inspections and is also used to help autonomous vehicles and robots navigate their surroundings.
How can we use Lidar in new and creative ways to better understand the digital reality of our built environment? In this video you will see how a digital twin created of the Marineterrin can be used as a multi-media canvas that paints a landscape of new and exciting possibilities.
Solution
In the fall of 2019, we used a Point Cloud Scan Model to create a 3D scan of the built surrounding. This model promises to become a unique promotional tool to showcase many experiments and research projects in and around the Marineterrein Amsterdam Living Lab.
The multi-purpose model enables various interest groups to explore the many invisible layers of our digital campus. Whatever the final form: a beautiful flythrough animation, an online 360 ̊ experience, or interactive experience with a headset - the point cloud model promises to deliver a novel new way to beg the question: what is the “digital reality” of our living lab campus and community?
